Occupational Therapist

We are seeking an Occupational Therapist to work with adults ages 20+ within an alternative-to-work day program. The successful candidate must have experience working with individuals with complex physical and cognitive impairments.

Experience working within a multidisciplinary team and AADL authorizer status is an asset.

Type of Employment: Part-time, two days per week during a Monday to Friday rotation (8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)

Anticipated Start Date: Immediately

Location: 10419 – 159 Street

Hourly Rate: $28.00 to $34.00 per hour based upon experience. There is also a competitive benefit and pension package.

Security and Safety: Criminal Records Check, Basic Security Clearance is required.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Consultation to families, instructors, and paraprofessionals regarding the most enabling support for adults with special needs.
  2. Assisting families to seek support for their home including equipment or materials for their child.
  3. Ordering of assistive devices or incontinence aides (AADL authorization is an asset).
  4. Undertaking assessments of in relation to the physical, communication, sensory, interaction and cognitive skills of individuals.
  5. Support development of positive support plans.
  6. Planning, organizing and supporting appropriate treatment/graded activities through individual or group based activities.
  7. Coaching individuals with learning difficulties or poor social skills
  8. Liaising and updating physicians, psychologists, parent/caregivers during on-site and community clinics.
  9. Planning further interventions, reviewing progress, and transitional planning.
  10. Assessing treatment success at multi-professional case conferences/meetings.
  11. Managing a caseload, prioritizing needs, and completing administrative tasks such as writing reports, making telephone calls, and maintaining records, budgetary records, and case notes.
  12. Training students and supervising the work of occupational therapy assistants.
  13. Registered and in good standing with the Alberta College Of Occupational Therapists

Education and Experience:

  • Masters.
  • At least 1 year experience working with paediatric/seniors.
  • Registered with ACOT.

Educational Assistant

Type of Employment: Full-time

Anticipated Start Date: August 25, 2017

Location : 10825 – 142 Street or 10419 – 159 Street

Hourly Rate: $15 – $17 per hour

Job Requirements:

Candidate will assist with the implementation of programs for students with complex cognitive, speech or neurobehavioral profiles. Activities and daily routines are under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher. Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team and willingness to assist with personal care, daily living skills, lifting and transferring, and proactive behavioral supports are integral aspects of this position.

Chief Responsibilities:

  1. Follow daily plans to carry out programs and activities.
  2. Supervise children, ensuring safety considerations are met.
  3. Provide positive behavioural supports and developmentally appropriate activities to children.
  4. Assist in classroom with the organization, preparation, and construction of materials. Implement and take data on designated programs.
  5. Work within a team setting, accepting and giving input from/to all members of the transdisciplinary team at all stages from planning to evaluation of children’s program.
  6. Communicate and forward information relative to children, to the teacher and appropriate resource team member, if applicable.
  7. Direct parental communication to teachers.
  8. Supervise children at arrival and departure times as designated.
  9. Outside of joint planning and/or protected time, there is a primary responsibility for completion of routine events such as laundry and dishes.
  10. Other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or administration.

Education and Experience:

  • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent required.
  • University or College Degree or Certification in Human Services, Early Childhood Development, Educational Assistant, or Special Education.
  • Early Education Special Needs Certification.
  • Related or direct experience with behaviour management is preferred.
